A chatty article about my love of all things fall.
As literally, every blogger on Instagram pointed out, fall is officially here!
And guess what?
SO HERE FOR IT. Fall is my favorite for multiple reasons. It represents the descent into warmth, where the energy is coded in deep reds and oranges and browns. The trees change colors and the mornings get cold. Hemlines get longer, hues get a bit darker. While current conversations center around Halloween parties and ideal couples costumes, fall is way more than trick-or-treating. The beauty of fall is everywhere, from the coziness of the crisp mornings to the array of colors represented in nature. You can’t throw a dime without hitting a person with a Pumpkin Spice Latte.
Fall is more rejuvenating than New Year’s in my book. It could be tied to childhood memories of returning to school for a brand new year or the excitement that fashion month presents at the tail end of August; either way, it screams ‘new phone, who dis?’. I can only handle the brightness of summer for so long until I yearn for the warmth The clothes in my closet, the blankets on my couch, the lights around my condo – it all has to change. There’s something about coming home from a long day of work to a condo with cinnamon-scented candles burning and an autumnal throw to wrap up in. Around here, it’s blasphemy to not take full advantage of this beautiful season.
Movies & TV Shows
I was an only child for the entirety of my childhood so I am fascinated with media, especially television and films. That being said, I can’t help but gravitate towards certain titles and series around this time. Around this time I can usually be found re-watching Dawson’s Creek or Gilmore Girls for the 90th time. It could be because I’m a creature of comfort or my strong emotional tie to fictional characters. Either way, fall continues to be the best time for revisiting cozy favorites. Below are a few favorites of mine to jog your memory. If you’re looking for a full list of new-in from Netflix, Vulture got you covered.
The quickest way to get in the autumnal spirit is decor. Blood orange throw pillows, festive wreaths, and oversized, apple-scented candles are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to home decor. Fall decor is one of the easiest things to purchase because of the sheer volume of items. You can go to any TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, JoAnn’s or Home Depot to grab a wide assortment of aesthetically pleasing items. Below are some of my favorite items that can create the most beautiful, welcoming autumn space.
My personal space is extremely, extremely important to me. As I get older my space becomes even more of a reflection of my mentality and energy. Being that fall is my favorite season, it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t spread that obsession to my condo. Expand your mind outside of the regular-schumgalar pumpkins and wheat; really get into the feeling of fall. The warmth, the low lighting, the hotty toddies.
Books are not cyclical for me, but this season presents a lot of books worth reading. Likewise, there are quite a few viral book clubs that I’ve joined lately to expand my current reading. At the moment I’m obsessing over them. There are a ton of celebrity book clubs you can join, and I”ve listed a few of my favorites below.
- Emma Watson’s Our Shared Self Group
- Emma Robert’s Belletrist
- Jeannie Mai’s Mai Book Club
- Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine
- WIRED’s Book Club
- Florence Welch’s Between Two Books
