Typically, summer sucks. Summers in the south are not enjoyable unless you’re lakeside or beachfront. You can’t straighten your hair or wear layers or even breathe, really, during southern summers. It also leaves little desirable clothing since everything feels too heavy. There’s a reason every southern woman owns at least few pair cutoff shorts and crop tops.  Personally, summer is my least favorite season but I’m trying to be less cynical about things, therefore, it’s started to grow on me. With that in mind, here are 4 SS18 looks to keep you cool on Instagram, and IRL.

Prints are a hard trend to try, and even harder to perfect. A chic way to style prints is to choose the same print in different colors. The next few months lend themselves to trying fun, flirty silhouettes and trends. It’s a slow process but you can master mixing-and-matching prints easily, too. Pick one print to dominate and one to accent, layering neutral pieces or accessories to downplay the boldness.

Monochromatic is still having its moment, so capitalize on it while you can. Matching sets can be found everywhere and in every style. The slimming nature of wearing all one color cannot be rivaled. The trend also transcends occasion. It can be applied to brunch plans, the boardroom or the bedroom (ow!).

A saturated trend, indeed; it is the most comfortable fashion item you can own. Athleisure has become a way of life for some while others are still getting used to the idea of sweatpants and heels. With this trend, you can be every day or very expressive. Bright windbreakers, loose logo cut-offs, high socks with dad shoes; a 90’s kid wet dream.

Doing the most: that’s the ’18 vibe and probably why maximalism is making a comeback. After two or three years of whites, nudes, and blacks only, there are finally some electric colors in these streets. (Instagram shoutout: if you’re really into color, here’s a list of colorful fashion bloggers we’re digging!).
